Filter coffee, also known as South Indian filter coffee or Kaapi, is a popular and aromatic coffee beverage from Southern India.
It's made using a special metal coffee filter called a "filter kaapi" or "dabarah" and typically consists of dark roasted coffee beans (often a blend of Arabica and Robusta) finely ground to a powdery consistency. The coffee grounds are placed in the upper compartment of the metal filter, hot water is added, and the brewed coffee drips slowly into the lower compartment.
